Chapter 3 Is Opportunity Monopolized?

"No man is kept poor because opportunity has been taken away from
him; because other people have monopolized the wealth, and have put
a fence around it."

Obviously this chapter is a little dated in it's references to various different industries that may or may not be monopolized, and the actual advice of what industries are good for making money in or not isn't really too relevant here. That being said, there is a common theme that is starting to emerge at this stage in the book:

No circumstance can hold you back, step by step, choice by choice you can move in the direction that will bring the change of circumstances you desire. No buts, no excuses, you can become wealthy.

In this chapter Wallace D Wattles begins to talk about the intelligent formless conscious energy that makes up the universe and begins to explore that the certain way interacts with the universe or the "all that is" that supports all your focus and desire.

Wallace also drops th G-bomb too :) Most people are triggered by the word god because of all the meanings that have been applied to the word, so lets explore what Wattles means:

When Wattles talks about "god" he is referring to the "all that is" or the universe. God is merely a throw away term for the conscious energy that forms the universe.

you could say the "Certain Way" interacts with god, if you wanted to, then again you might not.

is always impelled toward more life."

While we're on the subject of formless intelligent substances, I think it's appropriate to move on to the scientific body that is exploring this very principle:

Chapter 2: There is a Science of Getting rich.

"There is a Science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like
algebra or arithmetic."

Grant Says:

This exact science is what Wattles calls "The certain way".

Wallace continues in this chapter to allow us to observe our own preconceptions and beliefs surrounding wealth and possibility. There are so many psychologies surrounding wealth, and we are all so quick to blame our environment for our current circumstances that it can be good to be shown direct examples of where we are misleading ourselves at times. Our minds will always try to justify what it considers to be "impossible" from it's limited viewpoint - you can command the mind to discover more opportunity or allow it to convince you of your limited potential. Ultimately you want to move to a position of knowing your abundance and true nature so completely that you no longer need examples to feed your sense of opportunity:

You Develop the no excuses mindset.

"No one is prevented from getting rich by lack of capital. True, as
you get capital the increase becomes more easy and rapid; but one
who has capital is already rich, and does not need to consider how
to become so. "

Again Wattles continues the empowering thread that we have the ability to choose regardless of circumstances. The premise of "not enough" or "lack" is simply that: a premise or a perspective.
It's nothing more than a psychology that we've bought into and if you convince yourself that you can't do it, then guess what? You won't be able to do it. But if you take a few steps higher up the mountain, you never know how expansive and beautiful that view point will be. You have the power to focus on what you want to achieve and make choices in that direction while uncover your wealth piece by piece, step by step, choice by choice...

sure it may take a little time, but so does sitting on your ass complaining; It's a lot more fun to spend your time building a rich mind.

But I can't...but....but...but....No Buts!

Wallace is empowering us all in this SOGR chapter to recognize our ability to choose freely with a sense of infinite opportunity aka "The Certain Way". When we make the choices required to move us in the direction we want to go, despite the fear and doubt that may come up, we begin a journey of discovery. The "Certain Way" Wallace D Wattles refers to is an aspect of universal law that encompasses your true nature in a supportive world of infinite opportunity. The only place lack of any kind exists is within your mind. There isn't really any lack in the universe; they're is only your creation of lack through perception.

If we continue to struggle against the universe and allow false perceptions to limit our possibility in life then we will achieve nothing but tiredness and poverty. Don't allow yourself to fool yourself.

Chapter 1 the right to be rich...


"There is nothing wrong in wanting to get
rich. The desire for riches is really the desire
for a richer, fuller, and more abundant life;
and that desire is praiseworthy. The man
who does not desire to live more abundantly
is abnormal, and so the man who does not
desire to have money enough to buy all he
wants is abnormal."

Grant Says:

The Chapter title sums it up here quite beautifully "you have the right to be rich"...but i would go a step further than Wallace and say "you are already rich". You have the right to choose the beliefs and limits you want in life, and some of those beliefs may be of poverty and lack. When you become aware of the inherent abundance in the universe then you are in a position to start letting it in; but it's always there...it's always there! Ofcourse Wallace knows this too, after all the whole foundation of SOGR is aligning yourself with an abundant universe, but what this chapter title sets people up for is to begin to overcome some of their ingrained belief patterns surrounding wealth.

This chapter allows us all to reexamine our ingrained beliefs surrounding money and become more open to applying the principles of "The Science of getting rich". Ofcourse the awareness of our interconnection to all things in the universe and inherent abundance is something uncovered through application and observation.

You have the right to know and see your true nature; when you know your true nature you may discover you are abundant in all areas in life

"Man’s right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted
use of all things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual,
and physical unfoldment; or, in other words, his right to be rich."

As I said previously, what we have is a right for is to take care of the quality of our own consciousness, when you shift your consciousness you may see your inherent wealth, you may know you're abundant, but meanwhile act in a "certain way", observe yourself, and begin to uncover that knowing. We are all taught various psychologies of lack when we grow up, and have had points of view shoved down our throats time and time again:

Money doesn't grow on trees you know!

When you start to become conscious of those psychologies within you, you will struggle with them; you will struggle with them for they are ingrained in you. We're all taught that if we can control everything in life we can get what we want; but Wallace (and many others) state that if we begin to command our minds we begin to command the infinite and abundant universe around us.

What Wattles states in the preceding quote is a perfect example of lack psychology. A controlling lack perspective wants to control every last penny in order to hang onto money; a commanding abundant perspective has tried and tested the universe to receive their birth right abundance whenever they feel like it.

Control, fear of lack, and thrift stifle the flow of energy in the universe, I'll leave you with a good quote from Deepak Chopra today.

"The word affluence comes from the root word "affluere", which means "to flow to". The word affluence means "to flow in abundance." Money is really a symbol of the life energy we exchange and the life energy we use as a result of the service we provide to the universe. Deepak then goes onto say:

This is the 3rd and final post on the preface of the science of getting rich. Much like pt 2 of the preface discussion, this was intended to shed more light on a few other people Wattles mentions in the SOGR preface, but I'm struggling to find any good information at the moment.

What I'll do is wrap up the discussion on the preface anyway and set us up to move onto chapter 1. Wallace D Wattles offers you the opportunity to delve further into the conclusions and scientific method he offers, but he chooses to focus on the mission at hand. - the certain way is about focus and certainty so it's no surprise that "The science of getting Rich" was written with the same certainty of purpose and laser focus.

Personally I encourage you to delve as deep as you feel you need to intellectually and this blog should serve as a focal point for further exploration into the principles behind SOGR, however, the real truth is found within you, your ability to attract wealth is a reflection of what's inside of you, your thoughts, the quality and effectiveness of your consciousness, is revealed to you through observation as you courageously explore the principles you want to integrate and live by.

1) Descartes

Grant says: I find it interesting how all these minds are around in times in history willing to question the nature of who we are. It's interesting to see so many hypothesizing, only to have their contemporaries tear their work apart. Here lies the effective evolution of academic knowledge. Of course as many of the more savvy philosophers began to realize, there is more to life than mere academic discourse, there is your inner knowing and the discovery of your true self, the self actualized explorer who uncovers a deeper knowledge through observation of their thoughts feelings actions and reactions is a powerful being indeed.

Okidokey guys, I know this post is a bit scrappy; I'm still not sure exactly how much information to include but I think there is the basis of a reference point for the universally enlightened people Wallace d Wattles mentions in this section of the preface.

"THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a
treatise upon theories."

Grant Says: Wattle's starts this book by highlighting the importance of accepting what he says to be so, he encourages us to realize that faith in this system is only achieved by becoming a scientist, conducting our own experiments as it were. He makes it quite clear that the science of getting rich is designed to do exactly what it says on the tin:

Let you discover the formula for attracting wealth through application.

Wallace encourages us to understand the value of acting in "the certain way" by simply doing it. Although Wattles talks about subjects of energy, spirituality and our place in the universe, he makes no attempt to discuss those topics outside of the context of becoming rich. The way I see it, although he references spiritual truths that ordinarily would warrant deep inner exploration and discussion, Wallace recognizes that its not important to have it all worked out. Although these laws for obtaining wealth are a reflection of a much bigger truth of our true nature; you do no need to be fully conscious of who you are for the truth to work for you.

Greetings folks,

This blog is the perfect adjunct to those studying the Science of getting Rich by Wallace D Wattles.
The Science of getting rich is clearly a profound piece of work, yet it's so easy for the concepts to get twisted in your mind after a while when life gets in the way. This blog will help you focus on the key elements of SOGR and fully integrate the wisdom of Wallace D Wattles.

Chapter by chapter I will discuss points raised in the book and leave you with SOGR quotes to keep you motivated and re-mind you of your own true nature and the reality in which you live.

I will also use this blog to create discussions on the principles of the law of attraction from as it applies to us all right now, obviously universal truth is timeless, however, Wattle's language is a bit dated at times and I think it will be very useful for us all muse from a 21st century perspective :)
